Stars Over Avalon

from The Goods by Governing Dynamics

about

For Spintunes2, Round 1 - Write a song about your hometown, that mentions the town by name at least once.

lyrics

driving past the sign
i've just got to laugh
"population 50"
there couldn't be half
that many souls
who have a home within
these so called city limits
it doesn't take a minute

to drive from one side to the other
but you can't judge a place
by the ground that it covers
if the news is a battle
we are soliders far from the fight
at least we can look up and see stars at night

drifting past the place
i wrote songs with my band
i remember things i learned
i still don't understand
steetlights shining
off the gravel
of quiet streets where no car travels
empty buildings, the cemetary
forgotten founders and secrets buried

this town has lived longer than I ever will
with all of it's people come and gone
somehow no matter where I've been, what I've seen
I still miss the stars over Avalon

and it's quiet but for sounds
that we make ourselves, you see
it's not so bad as long as you
can stand your own company
for what we might lack
in artificial light
at least we can look up and see stars at night, see the stars at night

sometimes i still miss the stars
